Every April, Ray Abell of Nishikigoi of Niigata in Richmond, Virginia releases koi into his 3 mud ponds to be one with nature. The koi are harvested the following November, with great celebration. For the spring events, Ray will often invite a few people to join him. The koi are inspected, measured and photographed before being released into the mud ponds. Ray sometimes shares his knowledge about koi with us. I captured some of those discussions on video. Ray’s passion and understanding of koi and koi keeping is unprecedented, in my opinion.
