Our pond is 33′ x 18′. The depth is from 3′ – 4.5′. It has 2 Savio skimmers with 1 Savio UV light in each. 2 Savio pumps pushing about 3700 gallons per hour. There are 10 koi and about a dozen goldfish-also, there are a lot of mosquito fish(very helpful). My suggestion to anyone wanting to build their own Koi pond- make it as big as you can the first time!!!!!- this was my 4th time!!
June 30, 2008. My koi pond has magically cleared up over the last 6 days. I added a lot more water hyacinths suspended in a 4′ X 10′ minnow seine net from Wal Mart. This keeps the koi from eating and tearing up the plant roots. The plants use up the nutrients in the pond and the algae starve to death. Voila! Clear water.

Got some new Koi today as the pond has only 4 large fish at the moment.( 3 Koi and a Golden orfe.) The wife bought me 4 for my birthday and I bought 6 as the dealer did a deal if you bought 10. Must fix the pond vacuum so I can give the pond a spring clean…
I am considerbuying a koi fish off of ebay. How in the world will it be shipped so that the fish is not destroyed
