I meant to answer, but never got a chance. You should have a skimmer or you will begin getting more and more cloudy water. You may also want to look into a UV sterilizer, but your other question was concerned about power usage.
I would say that you have to put fish in the pond that will take care of algae etc.
Then a net should be good for getting anything that should not be in there.
Some water Lillies too o/w birds will fly down and eat your fish
