Clear at last,! Koi fish in a water garden pond.

13

June 30, 2008. My koi pond has magically cleared up over the last 6 days. I added a lot more water hyacinths suspended in a 4′ X 10′ minnow seine net from Wal Mart. This keeps the koi from eating and tearing up the plant roots. The plants use up the nutrients in the pond and the algae starve to death. Voila! Clear water.

I only have 1000Gpond, 500G pond, and a 400G set up in our shed. I hope one day to have large pond. I am 18 and have kept fish for many years, recently have fallen in love with the koi. I am learning the breeding process and selling koi also. I just wanted to thank you personally for all your info. I now have water hycinths in my pond a filter and a net!

I also have a secret to a crystal clear pond year round without uv or plants

make sure you add an UV lite sterilizer to keep your pond sparkling clear without green, foggy water.

Beautiful!! My water is only beginning to clear up. We have water lilies and parrot feather.

they do eat the roots, but part of the fun of having the water hyacinth is having it float around and cover the pond area. Never thought to put them on the sides like that in a net…
Mine are just floating in the water and they multiply like crazy even with roots being eaten… I bought 2 and now have about 24 or so.
    Nice fish!!

Love that. I wish I could afford that many hyacinth’s. At $4 each, it would cost a small fortune to put enough in my pond to clear the water, and we don’t have them up here. Lovely pond, though.
